Định nghĩa giới từ

Giới từ là một từ loại dùng để chỉ thời gian, vị trí, địa điểm… chỉ sự liên quan giữa các từ khác trong cụm, trong câu văn. Được dùng với vai trò gắn kết các thành phần trong câu với nhau để câu văn đầy đủ nghĩa.

Ví dụ:

I live in Da Nang City. Tôi sống tại thành phố Đà Nẵng.

Ở câu trên ta chỉ có thể dùng “in” đi với “Da Nang city” để chỉ nơi chốn bạn sống. Nếu không dùng in thì câu trên sẽ không rõ nghĩa.

  • Giờ trong ngày

Ví dụ:

  • at Christmas
  • at the moment, at present, at first, at the same time, at that time.
  • at 12 o’clock
  • at night, at bedtime, at dawn

ON (vào)

  • Ngày trong kỳ nghỉ
  • Các buổi trong ngày
  • Ngày tháng trong năm
  • Cụ thể ngày trong tuần

Ví dụ:

  • On time: đúng giờ
  • on 13th January
  • on Christmas Day
  • on Monday
  • on Tuesday morning
  • on my birthday

Giới từ chỉ nơi chốn

AT (tại) dùng trong trường hợp chỉ vị trí tại một điểm

Ví dụ:

  • at the front/back, at the beginning/end
  • at school, at home
  • at the airport, at the shop

IN (trong, ở trong) 

  • Vị trí trong một diện tích
  • Dùng với các phương tiện đi lại bằng xe hơi (car)
  • Dùng trước tên đường, tên thị trấn, thành phố, quốc gia miền, phương hướng
  • Một không gian

Ví dụ:

  • in Vietnam
  • in a hall
  • in Hanoi
  • in a bus
  • in the universe
  • in the countryside

ON (trên, ở trên) 

  • số tầng trong một tòa nhà
  • vị trí trên bề mặt
  • dùng với một số phương tiện đi lại.

Ví dụ: 

  • on the ground, on the second floor
  • on the board  
  • on foot 

Giới từ chỉ sự chuyển động

To (đến)

Ví dụ: She goes to school.

From … To (từ … đến)

Ví dụ: How far is it from her house to her school?

Through (xuyên qua)

Ví dụ: They walked through the rever.

Across (ngang qua)

Ví dụ: The children ran straight across in front of that car.

Round/ Around (xung quanh)

Ví dụ: The dog walks around the circle over there.

Along (dọc theo)

Ví dụ: We walked along the river bank.

Up (lên)/ Down (xuống)

 Ví dụ: The price of petroleum went up quickly.

Toward (Towards) (về phía)

 Ví dụ: People have different opinions towards Jimmy’s behaviors.

Giới từ chỉ mục đích

For, to, in order to, so as to (để)

Ví dụ: She needs to wake up early in order to go to work on time.

Giới từ chỉ nguyên nhân

Because of, for, owing to (tại vì)

Ví dụ: Because of the heavy rain, I have to wear a raincoat.

Giới từ chỉ phương tiện

With, by, through (bằng)

Ví dụ: She goes to her parents’ house by car.

Giới từ chỉ phương thức

With (bằng), without (không có)

Ví dụ: She makes the dish with her love.

Giới từ chỉ sự tương quan

According to (theo như), instead of (thay vì), in spite of (mặc dù)

Ví dụ: In spite of the heavy rain, she still go to school.
