Định nghĩa về giới từ
Giới từ là từ chỉ sự liên quan của các từ loại trong câu hoặc cụm từ. Đi sau giới từ thường là tân ngữ, ing, hay Cụm danh từ …
Ví dụ:
- We live in a charming old house.
- We used to live in Paris, but now we’re somewhere in Hanoi.
Các loại giới từ thường gặp
Giới từ chỉ thời gian
in, on, at, for, by, after, between, till, until, from … to,…
- At + thời điểm cụ thể
Ví dụ: at night/ four o’clock in the afternoon
- In + năm/ tháng/ mùa
Ví dụ:
In 1970/ July/ summer
In + the morning / afternoon / evening
- On + ngày tháng năm/ ngày trong tuần
Ví dụ: on Saturday / November 4th, 2012
- from + điểm thời gian + to + điểm thời gian
Ví dụ: They have classes from 8 o’clock to 11.15.
- For + khoảng thời gian
Ví dụ: for three hours , a week …
- By + một điểm thời gian
Ví dụ: by six o’clock
- After + thời gian
Ví dụ: after lunch / breakfast / dinnet…
- Between + điểm thời gian + and + điểm thời gian: có nghĩa là khoảng từ … đến …
- Till / Until + điểm thời gian: đến khi, đến lúc
Giới từ chỉ nơi chốn
- On
*ở trên (sát vào, chạm vào, bao phủ hoặc tạo thành một phần của bề mặt.)
Ví dụ: On the table
*ở ( một con đường hoặc một đại lộ)
Ví dụ: on Hai Ba Trung Street.
*ở trong/ trên hay phương tiện chuyên chở.
Ví dụ: on the plane / bus…

Ví dụ: on her back
- At + địa chỉ
Ví dụ: at 12 Ba Thang Hai Street.
- In + tên nước, tỉnh, thành phố.
Ví dụ: in Viet Nam, in Da Nang city.
Một số giới từ chỉ vị trí khác
sau), below ( bên dưới), beside (bên cạnh), between (ở giữa), far from (ở xa), in front of (trước mặt), in the middle of ( ở giữa), above ( bên trên), around ( xung quanh), behind (đằng inside (bên trong), near (gần), next to (bên cạnh), on the top of (trên đỉnh), outside (bên ngoài), under (bên dưới).
Giới từ chỉ sự di chuyển
- To, into, onto : đến
+ to: chỉ hướng tiếp cận tới người, địa điểm, vật.
+ into: tiếp cận và vào bên trong địa điểm hoặc vật đó.
+ onto: tiếp cận và tiếp xúc bề mặt, ở phía ngoài cùng của địa điểm hay vật đó
- From: chỉ nguồn gốc xuất xứ
Ví dụ: I come from Ho Chi Minh city.
- Across : ngang qua
Ví dụ: She swims across the river. ( Cô ấy bơi ngang qua sông)
- Along : dọc theo
- Around, round, about: quanh
